Who Are Atheists Honoring?

I’m rarely madder than what I was when I saw this. The smile on her face? It’s a good thing there’s a computer between us.

Fox News Reacts to Washington

November 27, 2009 Tim Leave a comment

How HORRENDOUS that Washington decide to treat groups equally and avoid controversy?

Typically pathetic coverage by Fox News, of something that’s barely news. Spin spin spin…

Those filthy atheists that don’t celebrate anything. Those minorities. Ruining our celebration by not putting it on state property! Rah rah rah!

Sigh…

The War on Christmas, Again!

November 21, 2009 Tim Leave a comment

The number one ruiner of my holidays? Listening to this year’s rendition of the ‘War on Christmas’ rhetoric spewed by the likes of Bill O’Reilly and various Christian organizations.

The AMA has already begun a boycott of GAP because their early holiday sales ad didn’t mention Christmas. Enough. That’s right, they listed Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, and the winter solstice in their commercial. But, Christians are offended because Christmas wasn’t mentioned ENOUGH. That’s the most asinine thing I’ve heard since, oh, last December.

“It’s completely dismissive and disrespectful to those who celebrate the meaning and spirit of Christmas …”

“If this is Gap’s answer to recognizing Christmas, we are deeply disappointed.”

My answer? Get over yourselves.

But that’s not all in the early shots fired in this year’s iteration of the War on Christmas. Some in Kentucky are upset that the mayor referred to lighting the holiday tree instead of the Christmas tree.

Would Christ approve of such pettiness? Anyone doing these things is simply a pathetic individual.

In a Massachusetts school, all forms of holiday decoration have been banned. Fox News has declared it the start of the War on Christmas. What? Christmas decorations aren’t the only holiday decorations banned? Whoops!

I grow so weary of the faux-religious persecution that these people dig up every year. I can’t even rustle up a well-thought retort, it’s just too pathetic. Plus, that would just further dignify their rantings and ravings. Just ignore it, just ignore it…

The UN and Children’s Rights

November 20, 2009 Tim Leave a comment

The UN has been trying to get countries to ratify the Children’s Rights treaty for twenty years. It includes several clauses about things such as ensuring the right to life for children, respecting opinions and beliefs, preventing children soldiers, and etc. The treaty is the single most ratified treaty ever set forth for UN member countries, with only two not ratifying it; Somalia and the United States.

This video goes more in-depth on the treaty itself, but that’s not the focus of this post. It seems fairly obvious to me that it should have been ratified years ago. I have nothing be distaste for the man attempting to argue against rights for children. Anti-family? Giving children their own rights detracts from the rights of their parents? I’d hope that any thinking human can understand why children need rights.

It’s saddening.

But, this is what this post is about.

“My thoughts go to all the children of the world, especially those who live in difficult conditions and suffer due to violence, abuses, sickness war or hunger,” Benedict said.

While urging all to join him in prayer, Benedict appealed to world governments to commit themselves to ensuring the treaty’s goals are met “so that the rights of children be recognized and their dignity ever more respected.”

How ironic, considering that this Pope was once a member of the clergy in charge of shuffling around pedophile priests convicted of molesting children.

How respectful of their dignity. It simply shocks me that they continue to get away with things like this. Hardly a week goes by when I don’t see a news-story showing another priest or otherwise caught in such acts. When are they going to be held accountable? How long before people start to notice these hypocritical statements, how long before these news-stories become more than momentary mentions, or more than mysteriously absent from newscasts?

Hopefully, soon.
